Hayworth has called Acheson home since 1986, and being nominated for Business of the Year within the community where we have operated and grown for four decades is something we are incredibly proud of.
The nomination was submitted anonymously, so we don’t know who put Hayworth forward for the award. Whoever you are, thank you for recognizing our business and our team.
While winning would certainly be an honour, simply being nominated is an accomplishment worth celebrating.
50 Years of Leadership and Growth
The Business of the Year Award recognizes leadership, vision and business growth—qualities that have been essential to Hayworth’s success.
Founded by Elmer and Doreen Schmidek in 1975, Hayworth celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025. Over five decades, the company has grown from a truck and trailer operation into a diversified heavy-duty business offering new and used trucks and trailers, parts, service, trailer rentals and financing.
Through expansion and changing markets, Hayworth has remained a family-owned Alberta business with the same focus on personalized customer service that helped build the company in 1975.
Perseverance Through Challenges
Perseverance is another important part of the Business of the Year Award criteria—and something our industry knows well.
Today’s trailer market continues to face challenges from high interest rates, inflation, tariffs, increased import costs and changing economic conditions. Hayworth has also experienced the many ups and downs of Western Canada’s oil, construction and transportation industries throughout its history.
Through each challenge, our approach has remained the same: adapt, support our customers and keep moving forward.
As we like to say, tough times don’t last, but tough teams do.
A Workplace We’re Proud Of
Creating a healthy and safe workplace is another area recognized by this award.
In 2025, Hayworth received national recognition as an Excellence Awardee for the WSIB Award for Canada’s Best Health & Safety Culture at Canada’s Safest Employers Awards.
That recognition, and now our Business of the Year nomination, reflects something we value deeply: building a company where our people can work safely, contribute and take pride in what we accomplish together.
